The international Blue Flag label is awarded to municipalities and marinas that pursue an ongoing policy of sustainable tourism development, with the aim of limiting the impact of tourism and maritime activities on the environment and conserving resources. Every year, the commune carries out environmental awareness campaigns.

The label is awarded to local authorities on the basis of four levels of criteria, "depending on an assessment of the site's equipment and facilities", ranging from simple "reduced mobility" access (to sanitary facilities and parking lots) to easy access for wheelchairs on the sand, not forgetting the aquatic sound system for the visually impaired. At Sainte Marie la Mer, a tiralo is available at the first-aid post, 3 parking spaces are reserved for the disabled, and a wheelchair ramp has been installed from the beach entrance to the sea.
